Asaro Competing in Prestigious Marlboro Masters Event
August 7, 2003 (Toronto, Canada): Billy Asaro, competitor in the British
Formula 3 Championship, will compete in the thirteenth annual Marlboro
Masters this weekend at the famous Zandvoort circuit in Holland. The
Marlboro Masters draws 100,000 spectators to see top teams and drivers
from the various European Formula 3 championships, including Britain,
France, Italy and Germany.
Asaro, who competes with P1 Motorsport in the British series will join
Menu F3 Motorsport for the Masters event. He will team up alongside
Menu regular Adam Carroll, who was Asaros team mate last year
in the British Formula 3 Scholarship Class.
Racing in the Marlboro Masters gives Asaro the opportunity to compete
on the world stage with the best of the best. The entry list currently
stands at 53 competitors, but only 35 will start Sundays race.
Asaro is, understandably, tremendously excited.
Its going to be an incredible event, a fantastic experience.
said the 21-year-old Canadian. Its a very prestigious race.
All the top drivers are going, so making the cut to start the race on
Sunday will be a huge challenge, but I will do my best as always.
Menu F3 Motorsport team manager and joint owner Mike Baker rates Asaro
highly and believes the stiff competition will push his abilities.
We have watched Billy develop into a real racer in the British
F3 Championship, said Baker. It will be a tough test for
him at this level, but I see many similar qualities in Billy as I did
in the last Canadian driver I worked with in the early 80s, that being
Paul Tracy, and he is not doing so bad for himself these days!
Team principal Alain Menu added: In Billy and Adam we have two
of the new breed of young drivers. They are determined to show their
worth and Zandvoort is the stage to do that. I wish them both the best
of luck!
The Marlboro Masters starts with a 30-minute practice session at 9:00am
Saturday, followed by two qualifying sessions beginning at noon. The
top 35 qualifiers will warm up at 9:30am Sunday, then race at 2:00pm.
